The 27-year-old was one of two bicyclists hit by a car on Mass. Ave. Tuesday evening.

ARLINGTON, MA — A Somerville bicyclist died after getting hit by a car in Arlington Tuesday evening. Police said two cyclists were struck at the intersection of Appleton Street and Massachusetts Avenue around 6:30 p.m.

Charles Proctor, 27, of Somerville, was taken to Lahey Hospital, where he died from his injuries, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said. The other cyclist, a 32-year-old woman, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the car, a Hyundai Sonata, and the cyclists were traveling in opposite directions on Massachusetts Avenue at the time of the crash. The driver of the Sonata, a 20-year-old Cambridge man, and his passengers remained at the scene, the District Attorney said.
