Upcoming Events
Sunflower Growing Contest, Saturday, September 22 - When are sunflowers “done”?
When the plant’s leaves turn brown and the flower heads droop, the plant has reached its full maturity and is done. You can either, pull the plant up and store it until the contest, or you can leave it in the ground, but it could get damaged by birds or the elements. The plants and seed head can be dry at the time of judging. So if your plants flower early it’s not a problem, just hold them until the contest. Prizes will be awarded for the tallest plant and the largest diameter seed head. See AFM website for complete rules and registration.
