Local Named 'Unsung Heroine'

June Fleischmann, Attleboro's social service coordinator, was honored last month as a member of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women's 2012 class of Unsung Heroines. She was nominated for the award by state Rep. George Ross and was honored with the other Unsung Heroines for her outstanding contributions to the citizens of Attleboro in a ceremony that took place on n the Great Hall at the State House in Boston.                                                            

The Unsung Heroines are women who don't make the news, but make the difference. They are the women who use their time, talent and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and make a difference in their neighborhoods, cities and towns. They are mentors, volunteers and innovators who do what needs to be done without the expectation of recognition or gratitude. These women are the glue that keeps a community together and every community has them.                                                                      

"Most of June's days are filled with helping her constituents find the resources and services that they desperately need, taking the time to help navigate the sometimes mountains of paperwork," Ross said.

He continued, "She uses her experiences and connections that she has fostered over the years to secure the sometimes scarce resources that are available in the community. June does not view what she does every day as her job but as her moral responsibility.”

State Rep. Betty Poirier said, "June is a dedicated and passionate individual and the citizens of Attleboro have been blessed to have her advocating on their behalf."
