Young Seekonk Republican Wins Award

 senior David Orleck is the first recipient of the Young American Patriot Scholarship from the Seekonk Republican Town Committee.

The scholarship is given to a young Seekonk Republican who has demonstrated leadership in the political process at the local and state levels. The recipient must be a proven activist for limited government and the maintenance of a republic that is of the people, by the people and for the people.

David interned with state Rep.  where he assisted in addressing constituent issues and with clerical matters. He has worked tirelessly for various Republican campaigns, including Jeff Bailey's .

He collected nomination paper signatures for Bailey, U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, congressional candidate Sean Bielat, School Committee member Brian Freitas, candidate for Governor's Council Steve Glovsky. He has actively participated in and coordinated sign waves for Republican candidates ranging from Bailey to Ron Paul. 

Most impressively, David encouraged more than a dozen of his peers to register to vote as Republicans. These students were able to vote in the March presidential primary election for the first time.

In addition to his political activism, David has shown academic excellence. He participated in the All District and All State Bands with symphonic band, jazz band and marching band. David is enrolled in all honors and AP classes, including AP American History, AP European History and AP Calculus. Through all this, he has maintained a high GPA.

This fall, David will attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he plans to study finance and economics.

The award will be presented to David at the Seekonk High Awards Night on Wednesday.
