Attleboro Gas Leak After Work Crew Ruptures Main: FD

The Attleboro firefighters checked nearby buildings but found no gas readings, the department said.

ATTLEBORO, MA — A work crew ruptured a gas main, prompting the Attleboro Fire Department to warn people away.

"Avoid the Area," the department posted to its page after the main ruptured on School Street between Hazel Street and Oneil Boulevard about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.

"An Eversource crew working on-site had ruptured a 4-inch gas main while shoring a hole to conduct maintenance work," the post said.

"The gas was successfully shut off within about 10 minutes," according to the post. "Crews checked nearby buildings and found no gas readings in any structures, and no evacuations were needed."

Fire crews remained at the scene for about a half hour to ensure the area was safe, the post said.
