Ex-Attleboro Prosecutor Acquitted in Sex Case

Peter Joseph Costanza had been accused of fondling a 17-year-old girl at the Attleboro District Court.

A Fall River Superior Court jury acquitted ex-Attleboro prosecutor Peter Joseph Costanza on Friday of all charges related to the allegation that he fondled a 17-year-old girl without her consent in an Attleboro District Court office in 2008.

"It's been a long two weeks," Costanza's attorney Kevin Reddington told the Boston Herald, according to the newspaper. "I'm thrilled for him. He had a ton of support."

Reddington argued during trial that his client was the victim of a set-up by the teenager and her drug dealer boyfriend, who was prosecuted by Costanza. The trial included bombshell jailhouse recordings in which the girl and her boyfriend talked about setting up a prosecutor for sexual harassment.

There is a separate case of inappropriate conduct against a woman pending against Costanza, according to the Herald.
