MASHPEE, MA — Cape Cod police this week asked the public's help after someone stole a memorial for a Mashpee Marine from his mother's residence. Dan McGuire was 19 years old when he was killed fighting in Iraq in 2008. For Memorial Day this year, his mother erected a display on her lawn "in honor of those who sacrificed themselves for our freedom." Someone stole a soldier silhouette that was part of the memorial, according to police.
"It holds special significance in our house," McGuire's brother, Sam, wrote in a Facebook post. "Please help us find it." Read more.
