Officials Talk 'Speed Humps' For Some Attleboro Neighborhoods

Roy Avenue and Holcott Drive are likely destinations for speed humps in Attleboro.

Vehicles traveling along Roy Avenue and Holcott Drive will likely need to slow down in the near future.

Portable "speed humps" could be placed on the road soon.

In his communications with the Attleboro City Council last week, Mayor Kevin Dumas said the Bristol County Commissioners, through the Byrne Grant, were donating 12 portable "speed humps" to the city.

The portable humps are worth $10,490.

City Councilor Walter Thibodeau, who chairs the transportation and traffic committee, said he hopes some of the "bumps" could be used on Roy and Holcott. Speeding there has been an issue, he said.

Thibodeau explained that speed bumps are different than speed bumps in that they are four to five feet wide with a gradual incline and a flat top.

The humps, which would likely be removed in the winter to allow for plowing and "proper signage" would be placed to warn drivers of the humps.

They are being donated through the Byrne Grant - a Federal grant provided to police departments.
