Pop Warner Scholars Recognized
Local leaders honor football players and cheerleaders who excel on and off the field.
Six football players and two cheerleaders from Attleboro Pop Warner were honored Monday night at the school committee meeting for being All-American scholars. To qualify, the athletes must maintain a minimum grade point average of 96 percent and participate in non-athletic extracurricular activities and volunteerism in the community.
Cameron Furtado and Gianna Fraielli were named to New England's sixth-grade first team, which means they are among the top 35 scholars in football and cheerleading in their grade level in New England. They were also named to the national second team. The other honorees were:
- Karlye Pinto - eighth grade, New England second team and national second team
- Joseph Zaarour - seventh grade, New England second team and national second team
- Cole Firth - seventh grade, New England second team and national honorable mention
- Daniel Perry - sixth grade, New England second team and national second team
- James Weir - sixth grade, New England second team and national second team
- Samuel Choiniere - fifth grade, New England second team and national second team
Recognitions were handed out by state Rep. George Ross, City Council President Frank Cook and School Committee members David Murphy and Brenda Furtado, whose son Cameron was among the honorees.
