Water Shutting off in Attleboro
Several local streets will be affected by the shutoff on Thursday, which is taking place during a water main repair.

Residents living in the vicinity of the Wilmarth Street/Pike Avenue intersection in Attleboro will be without water service Thursday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. (and possibly later). Service is being shut down so city workers can repair a water main at the intersection of Wilmarth Street and Hitchcock Lane, according to a notice from the Attleboro Water Department.
There will be no water service for the duration of the repair work for homes on Wilmarth (from Pike to Cottonwood Lane), Hitchcock, Heritage Drive and Hutchinson Road.
Homes located on streets east of Cottonwood "will initially have water, but the supply will diminish as time goes on," according to the department. This includes homes on Mohawk Lane, Slater Street, Winterberry Lane, Arrowood Lane, Michael Road, Kristina Way, Lorine Road, Pepperbush Lane, Greenbriar Lane, Brigham Hill Road, Brushwood Lane, Teaberry Lane, Woodstock Road, Cottonwood Lane, Regatta Drive, Lois Court, Strawberry Lane, Augsburg Drive, Kamira Way, Mettacomett Drive, Stevensfield Road, Stockade Circle, Jennifer Leigh Drive, K-Marie Drive and Smith Street.

There will be one lane of traffic on Wilmarth while the work is taking place.
Department officials anticipate the work will be finished by 3 p.m., but they advise residents to prepare for a longer duration. The extent of the work needed to be done will not be known until the area is excavated, according to the department's notice.

"With proper residential preparation and conservation, access to domestic water use should remain during the repair," the department states. "As a backup, we are prepared to utilize the interconnection with Norton. This will ensure adequate fire protection."

The department has the following advice for residents to prepare for the shutoff:
Prior to Thursday
- Fill containers with water for drinking and cooking purposes
- Fill bathtub with water to use to flush the toilet
On Thursday
- Refrain from showering or bathing
- Refrain from doing laundry
- Refrain from all outside water use
"We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this necessary repair," the department states. "A planned repair is far less disruptive than an emergency repair. We ask for your patience and cooperation."
