West Nile Virus Found in Attleboro

An infected mosquito was discovered on the east side of the city.

A mosquito carrying West Nile Virus was discovered in Attleboro.

Attleboro Heath Agent Alan Perry told Patch Wednesday that a mosquito carrying the disease was discovered on Aug. 2 on "the east side of the city."

The virus was found in a bird-biting mosquito as opposed to a mammal-biting mosquito, but officials are still using caution, Perry said.

"The Bristol County Mosquito Control Project will be conducting increased spraying in the area," Perry said.

WNV has also been discovered in nearby communities like Norton, Seekonk, Easton, Fall River and Freetown.

Perry urged residents to visit the city's website to learn about WNV and how to prevent contracting the disease.
