Woman Recovers Valuable Rings from Trash Pile
An Attleboro resident mistakenly throws away five rings, including her wedding ring. Waste Management workers help her recover them from a pile of 15 tons of trash

Attleboro resident Deb Kirby last week removed five rings from her fingers, including her wedding and engagement rings as well as one her father gave her. After wrapping them in paper towels to dry, she mistakenly threw them in the trash, which was picked up the next day by a Waste Management truck—leading to a difficult search with a happy ending.
The story first appeared in The Sun Chronicle, and CBS Boston reported what happened when Kirby contacted Waste Management after she realized what she had done:
Aaron Smith of Waste Management figured out which truck it was and stopped it not far from the incinerator. "It was close, very close to getting there," he says. Smith redirected the truck to the Raynham transfer station, where they dumped it.

"I thought I would be all by myself in a pile of trash digging for this. Eight men came out and helped me," she says.
It could have been a long ordeal as they began to sort through 15 tons of trash, but within 30 minutes, one man found the rings. Kirby told CBS Boston, those rings are never coming off again.
