LSU pitcher Paul Skenes started the night with a bang for the league, marking the fifth time in six years a Cape alum was chosen first.

CAPE COD, MA — In a recent interview with Patch, new Cape Cod Baseball League President Andrew Lang said every player who comes through the league should have the expectation of being drafted.

That includes the top overall selection in LSU pitcher Paul Skenes, who spent the 2021 season with the Wareham Gatemen. Skenes was chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates. His teammate Dylan Crews was taken second, the first time a pair of college teammates were taken one and two overall.
Crews isn't among the crop of alumni selected, but there was no shortage of talent who helped make a name for themselves among big league scouts on the Cape.
