2 Dead After Boat Capsizes Near Edgarton's Cow Bay: Reports
The two were pulled from the frigid water after the scalloping boat capsized, according to reports.
EDGARTOWN, MA — Two died after a scalloping boat capsized near Edgartown's Cow Bay on New Year's Day, according to reports.
First responders were called to Cow Bay about 11 a.m. and pulled the two from the frigid water, the Vineyard Gazette reported.

“I can confirm that two people have passed away,” Edgartown Fire Chief Alex Schaeffer said in the Vineyard Gazette story. “The preliminary investigation does not suggest foul play and it appears at this time that weather played a role in this tragedy.”

The two were hospitalized in critical condition before dying, the MV Times reported.
"Schaeffer said first responders located the two individuals in the water and rescued them with assistance from the Oak Bluffs Fire Department, Tisbury Fire Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard," according to the MV Times. "The individuals were taken to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and were last reported to be in critical condition."

The two dead have yet to be identified, per WCVB.

"Preliminary investigation suggests that the weather played a role in the incident, according to the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office," the WCVB story said.
