Barnstable Firefighters Help Rescue Raccoon Stuck In Car Dashboard
The critter is safe with the Cape Wildlife Center thanks to area firefighters and a local who found the orphaned raccoon.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Cape Cod first responders were needed to help rescue a young raccoon stuck in a car, wildlife officials said.
Officials with the Cape Wildlife Center said firefighters from Barnstable are to thank for helping rescue an orphaned raccoon stuck under a car dashboard.
"A finder bringing us a young raccoon got the surprise of his life when he arrived at our cape hospital and went to get the carrier that was holding this orphaned raccoon out of his car," officials said.

"The raccoon had escaped the carrier during the drive and wedged himself up under the dashboard of the car. Our staff tried to see if they could extricate the youngster, however he had crawled so far in we could not get to him."
Knowing the car would need to be partially disassembled, officials called the fire department to help, and eventually got the car out of the car.

"The little guy was scared, and a little hot, but thankfully unharmed. After all that excitement he was happy to enjoy a meal and a cold drink of water," officials said.
