Barnstable Police Sgt. Jason Sturgis Dies Unexpectedly

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable Police Sgt. Jason Sturgis passed away Saturday, the department announced Sunday. His passing was "sudden and unexpected," the department said.

Sturgis was a 19-year veteran of the department and served in the Community Impact Unit before returning to the Patrol Division. He was 42, according to the Cape Cod Times.

"Sgt. Sturgis touched many lives both here at the BPD and out in his community," the Barnstable Police Department said in a statement on Facebook. "He was greatly respected and will be sorely missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him."
