Barnstable Is Updating Its Open Space and Recreation Plan. Officials Want To Hear From Locals

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable is currently updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan and will hold a community meeting for residents to learn more this month.
An Open Space and Recreation Plan is a tool through which a community plans for the future of its conservation and recreation resources, officials said.
A community meeting with be held in person on Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. at Barnstable Town Hall (367 Main Street, Hyannis - 2nd Floor James H. Crocker Jr. Hearing Room).

"The objective of the meeting is to obtain insight into issues and opportunities related to the Town’s open space and recreation resources," officials said.
Additionally, the Town of Barnstable has launched a survey to "better understand the importance of parks, trails, conservation areas, recreation programs and other opportunities," officials said.

They added that public input will be a crucial component in updating the OSRP, which will ultimately provide a blueprint to guide the Town’s plans, investments, policies and regulations in support of protecting and enhancing open space and recreation resources.
The survey can be accessed at the following link: https://tinyurl.com/BarnstableOSRPSurvey. It is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Hard copies of the survey are available at each of the town’s libraries, the Hyannis Youth & Community Center (141 Bassett Lane, Hyannis) and the Barnstable Adult Community Center (825 Falmouth Rd, Hyannis).
The survey is open through Aug. 17, 2025.
