Cape Cod Boat Fire Sends 1 To Hospital
The fire at the Oyster Harbors Marine was likely caused by a lithium-ion battery, officials said.
OSTERVILLE, MA — A boat fire on Cape Cod sent one person to the hospital, officials said.
Around 7:55 a.m., the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department responded to a reported boat fire at 122 Bridge St., located within the Oyster Harbors Marine in Osterville.
The boat was out of the water in a storage yard, and posed "potential exposure risks with nearby boats and structures," officials said.

Workers at the marine attempted to suppress it by boarding the boat after initially spotting it.
C.O.M.M. fire officials responded to the scene and successfully protected the other boats from exposure. The fire originated from a lithium-ion battery, officials determined, posing additional challenges due to the threat of reignition.

Crews remained on the scene while waiting for officials from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection for battery removal guidance, especially considering the proximity to the ocean.
Two workers were evaluated for smoke inhalation, with one being taken to Cape Cod Hospital for further evaluation.
