Cape Cod Building Compromised During 'Fast-Spreading' Fire
No one was injured during an early morning fire at a Mashpee commercial building, officials said.
MASHPEE, MA — No one was injured during a Cape Cod fire that burnt through portions of the first floor of a building.
Around 2 a.m. on April 3, the Mashpee Fire Department received a 911 call that a fire was spreading at 84 Algonquin Ave.
The building is described as a two-and-a-half story wood-frame commercial building, and people at the scene said they believed the "fast-spreading" fire started in the building's garage.

Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and flames on the left side of the building, prompting fire crews from Falmouth, Cotuit, Sandwich, the COMM Fire District and the JBCC Fire Department to assist on the scene and provide coverage for Mashpee.
Fire crews attacked the fire from outside before moving the operation to the interior.

Sections of the first floor were burnt through, slowing progress. However, the "bulk" of the fire was extinguished within the first five minutes, officials said.
Officials said they too believe the fire started in a lower garage bay, extending to the first floor and attic of the building.
Extensive salvage and overhaul operations were completed within the structure.
No injuries were reported.
