Cape Cod Man Guilty In 2024 Rape Case, Gets 14 Years In State Prison
The Cape Cod man will serve at least the 14 years after a jury found him guilty on three counts of rape, officials said.
HYANNIS, MA — A Cape Cod man will serve at least 14 years in prison after he was found guilty on rape charges.
Furkan Ergen, 28, of Hyannis, was found guilty of multiple sexual assault charges after a jury trial in the Barnstable Superior Court on June 30.
Ergen will serve a state prison sentence of at least 14 to 16 years with a probationary period to continue until 3 years after the committed sentence.

On July 23, 2024, Barnstable Police received a call from a woman stating that she had been assaulted inside an apartment.
Upon arriving, it was reported to the officers that the woman had been out with Ergen earlier that evening. Ergen brought the victim to his apartment, where he proceeded to "force himself on her and sexually assault her," the Cape and Island's DA's Office said.

The victim was able to escape from the apartment, hiding outside and running through nearby woods, ultimately contacting police.
After a six-day trial in the Barnstable Superior Court, the jury returned with guilty verdicts on all the charges brought against Ergen, which include three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14.
