Cape Cod Man Tased Twice After Strangling Officer: Police

Yarmouth police said Cajun Burdick strangled an officer and shook off a taser.

YARMOUTH, MA — A Cape Cod man was arrested Friday after police said he strangled an officer and shook off a taser. Cajun Burdick, 33, of Yarmouth, faces a host of charges. The alleged incident happened Friday night in Yarmouth on Constance Avenue.

Officers were called to a residence for a report of a drunk man and found Burdick throwing items inside.

"While approaching the house from the left side, Officers encountered a young boy emerging from the backyard on a cell phone," Yarmouth police said in a statement. "The young boy was barefoot and did not have a shirt on. The outside temperature at the time was approximately 45 degrees. The young boy stated that he had called 911 seeking help."

Police said Burdick appeared to be drunk and soon became "irate and made several threats toward" the officers. At one point, the suspect "quickly spun around, grabbed the chain of the neck badge and began trying to strangle an Officer while charging and pushing him backwards into the house ... Fellow Officers assisted the Officer as the male subject continued to resist and fight. Officers deployed a Taser device to stop the subject. He continued to fight and a Taser was used a second time which immediately gained the subjects compliance and his attack was overcome and he was placed into handcuffs."

Burdick was transported to Yarmouth police headquarters and "continued to be belligerent, rude, vulgar, and threatening during the transport and booking processes," police said.
