ORLEANS, MA — A new scam targeting Cape Cod residents has been reported by local police.
Orleans police officials said people posing as Xfinity and Comcast representatives are urging those who pick up their calls to upgrade their modem or secure their firewall.
They've also sent emails or texts with fake links prompting customers to "order a replacement" or "verify your account", police officials said.

First of all, Comcast and Xfinity won't ask for personal information or remote access to devices for a modem replacement or security update.
Residents shouldn't click on suspicious links nor grant remote access to their computer to anyone claiming to be from the company.
Those who encounter what they believe to be a scam are asked to contact the Orleans Police Department or contact Comcast's fraud department.
