Cape Cod Staples Closed After Driver Crashes Car Through Building

No one inside the building was injured during the crash, police officials said.

ORLEANS, MA — A Route 6A Staples store will be closed until further notice after a driver crashed their car into the building on Saturday, police said.

At 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Communications received 911 calls reporting a car had crashed into the building at the Staples Plaza located at 136 Route 6A. Initial reports indicated one person was still in the car and unable to get out.

Personnel from the Orleans Police Department and Orleans Fire Department arrived in 4 minutes to find that the driver — the only occupant in the car — was still inside. They were "carefully extricated" from the car and evaluated for injuries.

Due to concerns about the extent of damage to the building, the Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team was activated to assist in shoring and removal of the vehicle. Crews worked for approximately 1 hour to address building concerns and remove the vehicle.

The Orleans Building Commissioner, along with Eversource and the property management company were also on scene.

The store was open at the time of the incident and no one inside the store was injured, police said.
