ICYMI: Cape Cod's First Recreational Marijuana Store Opening

Curaleaf is opening Cape Cod's first recreational marijuana store in Provincetown.

PROVINCETOWN, MA — Cape Cod's first recreational marijuana store will open today in Provincetown. Curaleaf was granted approval by the town's Licensing Board Tuesday night and will open today at noon, according to reports. Curaleaf President Patrik Jonsson went before the board for the town's marijuana business license hearing and it lasted all of eight minutes, the Cape Cod Times reported.

The store is at 170 Commercial Street and will be open seven days a week. Curaleaf won't be accepting card payments, but will accept cash and CanPay. There's a 20 percent tax on adult-use cannabis in Massachusetts.

The Times reported there were few questions at the Licensing Board meeting. The most pressing was concern over people potentially ingesting cannabis out in public nearby. Curaleaf will revisit the Licensing Board on June 9 to provide an update, the outlet reported.

Wednesday's event is a soft opening; the grand opening is Feb. 6.

The business' special permit application says the store, at 170 Commercial St., expects up to 250 customers on what they say will be their busiest day: Saturday. They plan to expand bike parking on their property and to have patrons use public parking nearby.
