Contents Of Ammunition Box Detonated On Cape Cod

A found box contained ammunition, explosive powder and detonators. It was safely disposed of this week.

BARNSTABLE, MA — The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department and Barnstable Police were able to transport an ammunition box to be safely disposed of this week.

Around 8:10 a.m. on Monday, the officials found an ammunition box in a unit at 381 Old Falmouth Rd. Inside the box were ammunition, explosive powder and detonators.

The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene and determined that there was no immediate threat, officials said.

The contents were then safely transported and detonated around 10:30 a.m. Officials said the controlled detonation could have been heard miles away, but is a routine safety measure.
