Elderly Homeowner Safe After Cape Cod Kitchen Fire
Fire officials are investigating, but believe the fire started in the microwave of the homeowner's kitchen.
YARMOUTH, MA — An elderly Cape Cod homeowner is safe after evacuating their home following a fire in their kitchen.
Yarmouth Fire officials received a 911 call on Monday night from a resident of 7 Chesley's Way in South Yarmouth. The woman said a fire started in her kitchen and, due to mobility issues, she was having trouble evacuating.
Just prior to fire officials arriving, the homeowner was able to evacuate with the help of a neighbor, officials said.

The fire was extinguished, the home was ventilated and all utilities were secured. No one else was in danger during the fire, officials said.
An investigation is ongoing but is believed to have started in the microwave in the kitchen. The homeowner was evaluated on the scene but wasn't transported to the hospital.
