Former Barnstable Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Vetorino Dies At 83
Vetorino was a firefighter for most of his life, starting his career at just 16-years-old. He served in Barnstable for over three decades.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Former Deputy Fire Chief Thomas F. Vetorino has died at 83, the Barnstable Fire Department announced.
"Deputy Vetorino was an integral member of the Barnstable Fire Department for 39 years from 1959 to 1998 serving in many capacities during his time with the department," officials said.
Among his many achievements is his help in establishing the Barnstable Fire Fighter's Association, of which he was a founding member in 1974.

According to an online obituary, Vetorino became a firefighter at just 16-years-old. At 19, he started in the business at Vetorino’s Excavation then later Woodchuck Hill.
"The entire Barnstable Fire Department extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the Vetorino family during this difficult time," fire officials said.

Barnstable police officials also shared their condolences, noting that Vetorino is the father-in-law of current patrol officer Peter Myrbeck.
A wake is scheduled for Tuesday, while his funeral will be held Wednesday, officials said.
