Gannon Shot In Forehead: No Evidence Of Prolonged Suffering
A former medical examiner says Sgt. Gannon's death was quick, with no evidence of prolonged suffering after being shot in the forehead.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Thursday marked the fifth day of testimony in the case against Thomas Latanowich, who is charged with fatally shooting Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon and injuring his K-9 partner in 2018.
Dr. Katherine Lindstrom, a former medical examiner described the autopsy she performed on the fallen police sergeant as photos were passed among jurors showing close-ups of the bullet wound on the right side of Gannon's forehead, the Cape Cod Times reported.
"There was a gunshot wound on the right side of his head, near his hairline," Lindstrom said. "The bullet went through his right frontal bone and into the left side of the brain, injuring the left side of the brain stem," the Times reported Lindstrom saying.

"There was no exit wound," Lindstrom said. She extracted the bullet fragments and placed them into a bag for evidence, which was shown to the courtroom Thursday. "It is quick, yes...there is no evidence of prolonged suffering," she added.
During the trial, Cape and Islands First Assistant District Attorney Michael Trudeau showed a short video to the jury that was pulled from a destroyed cellphone found at 109 Blueberry Lane, where the shooting took place.

The video showed a bloody scene around the attic.
Trudeau and Assistant DA Dan Higgins finished presenting the prosecution's case.
On Wednesday, the forensic scientist assigned to the case testified she found bloodstains on a pile of money at the scene of the murder, as well as gunshot residue on the hands of Latanowich, WHDH reported.
Before lunch recess on Thursday, Judge Jeffrey Locke told jurors to come back Monday when the defense will present its case, which should also conclude that day. According to the Times, Lock expects closing arguments to take place Tuesday and for the jurors to start making a decision that same day.
