A winter storm watch is in effect Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. Here's more from NWS:

  • A WINTER STORM WATCH...IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY MORNING...
  • LOCATIONS...ALL OF RHODE ISLAND AND SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS INCLUDING BOSTON AND CAPE COD.
  • ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 4 TO 8 INCHES.
  • TIMING...SNOW OVERSPREADS MOST OF THE AREA EARLY SUNDAY EVENING. THE BULK OF THE SNOW WILL FALL SUNDAY NIGHT WITH THE HEAVIEST MOST LIKELY ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE CAPE COD CANAL. THE SNOW SHOULD COME TO AN END BY MID MORNING ON MONDAY.
  • IMPACTS...SNOW IS EXPECTED TO ACCUMULATE ON ROADS SUNDAY NIGHT RESULTING IN HAZARDOUS TRAVEL ALONG WITH POOR VISIBILITY AT TIMES. IN ADDITION...THIS WILL LIKELY BE A WET SNOW ACROSS FAR SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS AND CAPE COD. THEREFORE...IF THE HIGHER AMOUNTS FALL...ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES AND DOWNED TREE LIMBS WOULD BE POSSIBLE.
  • UNCERTAINTY...IT REMAINS UNCERTAIN HOW FAR TO THE NORTHWEST THE HEAVY SNOW BAND WILL REACH. IF IT STAYS MAINLY OFFSHORE... SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL GENERALLY BE ON THE ORDER OF 1 TO 4 INCHES. HOWEVER...IF THE BAND OF HEAVIER SNOW MOVES FURTHER INLAND THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR 6 TO 8 INCH AMOUNTS...ESPECIALLY AROUND AND NEAR THE CAPE COD CANAL.
