Hyannis PetSmart Worker Mauled By Pit Bull: Police
Barnstable police said a 22-year-old woman was mauled by a pit bull during a grooming session at PetSmart in Hyannis.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A pit bull mauled a Hyannis PetSmart worker during a grooming session Wednesday morning, according to police. The 22-year-old worker, a woman, suffered multiple bites and was medflighted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston due to the severity of her injuries, police said. Her condition unavailable Thursday, according to police. Her name was not released.
The dog, identified as a female pit bull, was released back to the owner and ordered to be kept under in-house quarantine for 10 days as an investigation continues, police said.
Police officers were called to the store at about 11 a.m.

"During the grooming process, while the dog was being moved, for no apparent reason and without warning, the dog attacked the victim and would not let go of her arm," Barnstable police said in a statement. "Co-workers utilized an air horn and special spray, but were not able to deter the dog, until they were able to physically extract the victim’s arm from the jaws of the dog. They secured the dog in a kennel cage."
