Pet Adoption Roundup: 6 Chihuahuas At Cape's MSPCA Center
Six chihuahuas need a new home on the Cape after their former family was forced to give them up for adoption.

CENTERVILLE, MA — The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has taken in 11 chihuahuas from a Jamaica Plain home after their families were forced to leave. Six of those dogs now find themselves up for adoption at the society's Cape Cod adoptoon center in Centerville.
The dogs were split among family members living in three different apartments in a three-unit building. The owners were forced to move but could not find housing allowing them to keep their pets, so they reluctantly gave them up.
The society's Cape Cod director Mary Sarah Fairweather said the dogs are on the shyer side because they rarely left the apartment and are not used to being outside on a leash.

"The six dogs that we have — four females and two males — are a bit skittish, mostly because they've gone from a home in which they lived almost entirely indoors, and without exposure to any other dogs, to a busy animal shelter where they are just now getting used to collars and leashes and routines,” Fairweather said.
Despite these challenges, Fairweather believes their futures are bright. The society is taking this week to ensure all the dogs have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

“Chihuahuas are always in demand because they’re adorable and small, qualities that adopters often look for when evaluating pet dogs," she said.
