Protecting Houses Of Worship: Workshop For All Faiths

Barnstable police are holding a training session to train people in houses of worship to help prevent acts of violence and more.

HYANNIS, MA — The Barnstable Police Department is offering training session on how to boost safety and security at houses of worship. The Feb. 24 event is intended for people of all faiths.

"Safety and security planning is increasingly important for places of worship and faith-based organizations," Barnstable police said in their flyer, posted on social media.

The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Reach Assembly of God at 959 Mary Dunn Rd., Hyannis.

The program is for faith leaders, clergy, lay ministers, staff from churches, temples, synagogues, mosques, meeting houses and any other faith-based organization.

Security threats covered at the training will range from vandalism to acts of violence, and law enforcement officials identify faith communities as vulnerable targets.

The two-hour course will focus on prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery.
