CAPE COD, MA — Seven dogs rescued from an overcrowded farm in Maine found new homes in Massachusetts. The Rough Collies were placed in homes on Cape Cod and in Methuen, according to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The dogs were among more than 100 animals rescued from the farm in Solon, Maine, in late July.

The animals were sent to more than a dozen animal welfare organizations and will ultimately be placed in adoptive homes.

"We are glad to be able to help in this case, especially knowing that a surrender this large can be extremely burdensome for animal shelters in Maine — and fortunately we’re close enough to ensure comfortable transport for the dogs,” said Mike Keiley, director of adoption centers and programs for the MSPCA, in a statement.

Rough Collies are distinguished by their "long-tapered snouts, tipped ears and their intelligence, poise and friendliness," the organization said.

“It’s really hard for dogs housed in this way to be properly socialized and enjoy the medical and daily care that we all expect for our animals,” Keiley said. "We’ve been addressing some minor health concerns, but the dogs have really started to relax in our care and have signaled that they’re ready to be terrific companions."
