Community Rallies After Barnstable Police Sergeant's Sudden Death
Hundreds turned out to pay their respects to Sgt. Jason Sturgis Wednesday, and a fund has been set up to benefit his family.

BARNSTABLE, MA — The police escort for Barnstable Sgt. Jason Sturgis arrived on Cape Cod from the medical examiner's office in Boston Wednesday. Hundreds lined the roads to pay their respects as the procession left the highway and drove to the Doane, Beale & Ames Funeral Home, according to the Cape Cod Daily News.
Sturgis, a 19-year veteran of the department, passed away suddenly over the weekend at the age of 42. He was off-duty at the time.
The Barnstable Police Association has set up a fund to assist the Sturgis family. Anyone who would like to donate should make checks payable to "BPA – Sturgis Family Fund" and send it in using the following methods:

- Visit any local Rockland Trust branch and make a deposit into the account titled “Barnstable Police Association – Sturgis Family Fund”
- Mail the donation to the following address: Barnstable Police Association, PO Box 241 Hyannis, MA 02601
- Drop off the donation at the Barnstable Police Department
