Slain Cape Cod Police Officer Sean Gannon To Be Laid To Rest
Yarmouth police Officer Sean Gannon's memorial services are this week. Police said a career criminal shot Gannon and his police dog.

YARMOUTH, MA — Sean Gannon, the Yarmouth police officer shot and killed searching for a career criminal in Barnstable, will be laid to rest this week. Gannon, 32, and his police dog were shot Thursday by Thomas Latanowich, who has 125 criminal charge on his record, police said. Gannon died that day; the dog, Nero, survived. Latanowich eventually surrendered and was charged with murder.
Gannon's wake is Tuesday (April 17) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Pius X Church in Yarmouth. His funeral is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the same church. Thousands of mourners are expected, including law enforcement officers from across the country.
Before the wake at 3 p.m., Gannon's body will be escorted from Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis to St. Pius X Church. Police asked mourners to line the streets and wear blue.

"We urge all to come out and show their love and support for our fallen Police Officer as we begin this final journey home," Yarmouth police said in a statement.
