Tornado Touches Down On Cape Breaking People's Windows, Furniture

The intersection of East Bay View Road and Wampanoag Trail in Dennis saw the most destruction from the tornado's 75 mph winds.

DENNIS, MA — A tornado touched down in Dennis overnight Thursday morning, as the remnants of the storm Ida made its way through Cape Cod, according to the National Weather Service.

The tornado briefly touched down around 1:30 a.m., and lasted for less than a minute, a survey team for the National Weather Service said. Officials said the tornado reached a maximum wind speed of around 75 mph.

Most of the damage occurred at the intersection of East Bay View Road and Wampanoag Trail. Officials said one house had its sun porch window blown in, and other neighboring homes' windows were destroyed. People's patio furniture were lofted across the street.

The tornado also blew shingles off the roof of a house across the street. Three large oaks threes were also knocked down.

Officials said no injuries were reported.
