Town Tradition: 100 Years Of Hyannis Harbor Hawks Baseball

FALMOUTH, MA — The Cape Cod Baseball League will return in 2023 for the league’s centennial season, bringing the next crop of future big leaguers to towns across the Cape.

This includes Hyannis, which is among the four original teams in the Cape league. The league is planning special events throughout the 2023 season and has already unveiled a new logo to celebrate the occasion.

“The Cape League’s centennial is a special opportunity to celebrate all the history the league has," said Cape League Director of Public Relations Michael Lane. “Thousands of professional players got their start here on Cape Cod, and hopefully that tradition will continue for another 100 years.”

Among those players are five Hall of Famers: Pie Traynor, Carlton Fisk, Frank Thomas, Craig Biggio, and Jeff Bagwell. Over 360 former Cape League players currently find themselves on MLB rosters, including reigning MVP Aaron Judge.

The league has released the official 2023 schedule as well, which features 44 regular season games ahead of the end of summer playoffs.

Two Cape League games are slated for minor-league ballparks this summer.

The Hyannis Harbor Hawks will host the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox on July 26 at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford, Connecticut. Then, the Wareham Gatemen will host the Bourne Braves on July 31 at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts.

“The Hyannis Harbor Hawks are so excited to be returning to Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford, CT again this year,” said Dan Johnson, President of the Harbor Hawks. “It is the jewel ballpark of minor league baseball. The Yard Goats made us all feel so welcome, and it is such a thrill for our players, coaching staff, and interns to be able to experience a game at their facility. It will definitely be a highlight of our season.”
