Weather, Strong Winds Interrupt Beloved Cape Cod Event
A partial tent collapse at an event over the weekend didn't cause any injuries, but it did prompt organizers to cancel the event.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Inclement weather and strong winds interrupted a beloved event on a Cape Cod beach over the weekend.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday during the annual Best Buddies Challenge held at Craigville Beach, a portion of one of the event tents gave way due to "strong winds and inclement weather that had moved through the area," the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire & Rescue Department said.
"While the structural integrity of the tent was compromised, resulting in the event being halted, there was no full collapse," officials said.

Still, officials evacuated all participants and guests from the area o"ut of an abundance of caution."
No injuries occurred and everyone was safely evacuated, officials said, but it didn't come without disappointment, as the remained of the event was canceled.

"We recognize the disappointment for all those who participated and supported this important cause, and we appreciate the swift and professional response from all public safety personnel on scene," officials said.
