Yarmouth Residents Accuse Solar Panel Company Of Scamming Them

Now a spokesperson with the Attorney General's Office said they are in the early stages of reviewing Solar Wolf Energy.

YARMOUTH, MA — A solar panel company in Yarmouth shut down Tuesday night, leaving some Yarmouth residents with unfinished work on their homes, and others with hefty bills.

Yarmouth launched Solarize Plus Yarmouth in 2020, a program aimed to provide residents with "significantly reduced pricing" on solar panels for their homes. Yarmouth officials selected Solar Wolf Energy as its preferred solar panel installer in April 2021.

As of Thursday, the Town of Yarmouth has removed its Solarize Plus Yarmouth page from its website.

On Wednesday night, residents who had already paid for installations or signed contracts with Solar Wolf received an email from Mike Duffy, a solar coach with Solarize Plus Yarmouth, saying the company had gone "silent."

"It seemed like a trustworthy deal because it was literally offered by the town I live in," Yarmouth resident Jami Carder told WCVB. Carder said she had tried reaching out to the company herself, mostly to no avail.

A press release posted May 6 by Solar Wolf claims there were issues between the company and its panel manufacturer, Sunpower. In a LinkedIn post shared by Solar Wolf Tuesday night, the company said its founder "will be in touch with concerned and affected parties in the immediate future."

Yarmouth officials said the Attorney General's office has opened an official investigation into the matter. They're asking anyone who was affected to file a complaint with the Yarmouth police department and to contact the Attorney General's office.

A town zoom meeting will be held Thursday, May 12, at 7 p.m. to discuss the Solar Wolf incident. Visit the Yarmouth town website for more information.
