Pan Mass Challenge for Kids Hitting the Streets of Bedford on Saturday
Drivers beware and riders stay safe during the event that benefits the Jimmy Fund.

Driver beware - Saturday is the 9th annual Pan Mass Challenge Kids Ride in Bedford so watch out for those young cyclists.Β
Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno announced the road closures for June 15, and added some tips for drivers and riders.
Bongiorno said he expects 500 riders to participate.Β

"We ask motorist to obey all traffic signals, signs and temporary detours," Bongiorno said. "We will have a large contingent of police officers on the roads to assist the motoring public as well as the riders."
Railroad Avenue and McMahon Road will be closed to traffic from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Bongiorno said.

The PMC for Kids starts atΒ John Glenn Middle School.Β Riders have their choice of several routes for different ages and abilities, according to the PMC Website.Β The event benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.
- Wally's Way - an obstacle course for "tykes on trikes."
- Yawkey Way - a 1/2 mile route on the premises and perfect for kids on training wheels.
- GreenMonster - a 3 mile ride for young adventurous riders
- BigPapi - a 6 mile ride for more experienced riders
- BigPapiSlam - a 10 mile ride for those who want a real challenge
- Fenway - a 12 mile off-road route that travels the rail bed to Concord (must be entering 7th grade)
Here are Chief Bongiorno's tips for riders:
- Choose a route that is right for your ability
- Ride slow β¦ it is not a race
- Most of the roads are still open to vehicle traffic
- Ride on the correct side of the road
- Or sidewalks when noted β¦ South Road and Pine Hill Road
- Stay with your group
- Tell riders behind you your intentions
- Have Fun!
He also has some advice for drivers:
- Be aware that there are many youth riding bicycles around town between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
- Obey all traffic signals, signs and temporary detours
- Slow down and be patient for PMC Kids
