Police: Unruly Contrators and Unlicensed Solicitors

The following information was provided by the Bedford Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

9:42 a.m.- A caller reported a traffic light blinking on Burlington Road and causing a traffic problem. An officer responded and reported the Massachusetts Department of Transportation was working in the area. 

2:10 p.m.- A Concord resident came into the Bedford Police Department to report she had lost a pearl necklace somewhere in Bedford. She spoke with officers, but did not wish to file a formal report.

2:37 p.m.- Police received a call from a loss prevention officer at T.J. Maxx reporting a prior larceny at the store.

5:06 p.m.- A caller report a disabled vehicle on Shawsheen Road. Officers responded and confirmed a tow truck was on the way.

6:09 p.m.- A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in the private lot of a new development on North Road. The responding officer spoke with the contrator who reported the car belonged to one of his workers who was leaving it there for the night.

9:03 p.m.- A caller reported a dead cat in front of 359 North Road. The responding officer removed the car, and the residents said they would put up a sign in their front yard explaining what happened to the cat.

9:55 p.m.- Police received a call reporting a resident of Bedford Village was overdue returning home. The responding officer reported he spoke with the missing individual shortly before the original call as he was walking home.

Thursday, Oct. 25

8:16 a.m.- A caller reported a disabled vehicle on Burlington Road prior to Crosby Drive. The responding officer confirmed a tow was on the way.

11:28 a.m.- BPD received a call from the Veterans Administration Police Department reporting that they had a resident of 200 Springs Road in custody for warrants. Officers arrested the individual on the warrants and brought him back to the Bedford Police Department.

11:34 a.m.- An officer reported the gate at the skate park behind Town Center appeared to be broken. The Department of Public Works was notified.

1:55 p.m.- Police received a call from a resident of Highland Avenue reporting a civil complaint against a contractor working at a neighbor's house. Officers responded and spoke with the caller and the contractor, who agreed to remove items of concern. There was no further need for police involvement. 

3:56 p.m.- Police received a call from a resident of Earl Road reporting a solicitor going door to door without identification. The caller said he was suspicious because the solicitor had asked to use his restroom. An officer was dispatched and spoke to the individual who said he was permitted to solicit in town but had not picked up his permit yet. The officer informed the individual he would have to cease going door to door until he had his permit.

6:18 p.m.- A caller reported a vehicle was being operated erratically in the area of Maple Street and South Road. The caller said the driver was speeding and then stopping in the middle of the road. An officer responded but could not locate the vehicle. A half an hour later, police received a call reporting the vehicle was parked in a visitor spot in front of Bedford High School. An officer responded and spoke with the parties involved.

7:06 p.m.- Police received several calls reporting a group of solicitors from WGBH going door to door in the area of Pond Circle. Callers were concerned the group was going door to door after dark. The responding officer told the manager of the group they were not to be soliciting without permits and not after dark.

7:58 p.m.- A caller reported a suspicious male sitting under a tree under the street sign at Wheeler Drive. The responding officer spoke with the individual who said he was sitting there "for solace." The caller called BPD again later to report the individual was still sitting there. Police notified the caller there was no sign or rule that he could not be sitting there.
