How Much Will Bedford’s Water Rates Increase?

The Selectmen approved the new water and sewer rates for Fiscal 2014 and water rates will go up about 2.3 percent.

The board unanimously approved the rates on July 1, but did not change the irrigation rates, said Bedford Finance Director Victor Garofalo.

Bedford water users will pay $1.20 per 100 cubic feet of water up to 2,000 cubic feet – 10 cents more than 2013. Above that, they will pay $5.70 per 100 cubic feet (20 cents more than 2013), according to a report presented by Garofalo to the Selectmen. Customers also pay $35 annually for each meter.

A second meter costs another $35, and the rate is $8 per 100 cubic feet of water.

Sewer customers will pay $3.30 per 100 cubic feet of sewage – a 10 cent increase - for up to 2,000 cubic feet. Amounts above that will cost $9.40 per 100 cubic feet (10 cents above 2013), according to the report. A $45 annual fee will be charged for each sewer meter.

Industrial accounts which receive monthly bills will pay the meter rate twice a year.

The new rates went into effect on July 1, 2013, Garofalo said.
