5 Things: Roadwork on Willow, Birdie at Waldorf and Liz at the Library
Events occurring in Belmont on Friday, May 24.

1. Infrastructure work continues down the road as Insituform Technologies will begin sewer and drain repairs on Willow Street beginning at 7 a.m. but only if the weather permits it.
2. Waldorf High School's entire student population is performing the Broadway and movie classic musical Bye Bye Birdie at 7:30 p.m. With such a small student population, the school's four high school classes are involved with the production with the all-school chorus playing the chorus for the play. The school is located at 160 Lexington St.
3. Well-loved local musician Liz Buchanan performs original songs and traditional favorites in the Assembly Room of Belmont Public Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

3. Yoga, taught by professional instructors, is being held from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 582 Pleasant St, in Gardiner Hall at the back of the church. $10. All levels welcome just bring your own mat if you can. $6 per child for child care. All proceeds benefit Plymouth Nursery School.
5. Today is the centennial of the birth of William "Peter" Ellenshaw, the English matte designer – the detailed, and at times ethereal background artwork, usually landscapes, painted on glass – and special effects artist who worked for most of his career with Walt Disney. His classic work for 1964's Mary Poppins – which is today's art with this article – won an Academy Award.
