5 Things: Jedi Knight Training at the Library, Teen Writing Workshop

Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, July 24

1. Kids, meet a real Jedi Knight, take the Jedi Force Magic challenge, and see an epic lightsaber duel as Jungle Jim's Jedi Knight Training will take place in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library at 2 p.m.

2. It's the final night of the free Teen Writing Workshop led by Kerri Majors, author of "This is Not a Writing Manual: Notes for the Young Writer in the Real World." Majors will discuss participants' writing in a celebratory way, with an eye toward building on each writer's individual strengths. Tonight's class, held in the Young Adults Room from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will be about practicing voice and Point of View (POV). Walk-ins are welcome—there will be time for in-session writing, but it's always best come prepared!

3. The sewer and drain relining by Insituform Technologies will be at Belmont and Slade streets today while more road work on Channing Road just outside of Belmont Center will continue as will work on Waverley Street.

4. Heads up, sports fans! Get on the Belderbus (Belmont Council on Aging) for a free trip to the Sports Museum and TD Garden tomorrow, Thursday, July 25.  Leave at 10:15 a.m. and return about 12:30 p.m. Take a half-hour guided tour the TD Garden and then peruse the Sports Museum’s collection of artifacts of our Boston teams—the Celtics, Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox, even those from a women’s basketball team from the 1800s.  Call now to reserve your seat on the tour at 617-993-2970.
