5 Things: Learn More about Migrating Birds, Rotary Travels, Beethoven's Ninth
Events occurring in Belmont on Tuesday, May 7.
1. The great Spring migration is underway: birds are everywhere. Migrants are passing through Belmont on their exhausting journeys from Central and South America to nest in Maine and Canada. Join Mass Audubon’s Habitat educators and find out more about bird migration, their songs and nesting in the free presentation, "On the Wing", at the Beech Street Center at 1:15 p.m. today. Hear interesting stories about bird behavior and examine what songs to listen for! Sponsored in part by the Belmont Cultural Council.
2. Today's Rotary Club of Belmont meeting features special guest speaker Belmont High School teacher Mary Dominguez who participated in a special Rotary project which provided specialized vocational training to rural schools in the Phillipines. This was part of a district wide project of Rotary Clubs whose focus is to improve education and literacy world-wide. The meeting will take place from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library.
3. Belmont High School Girls' Tennis will take on Burlington High School at the Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m. while the Girls' Track team host Lexington High School at Harris Field also at the appointed time.

4. Benton Library's Pre-school Story Time is a 45-minute program geared toward children between 3 and 5. It features a variety of stories, as well as music, finger plays and/or a craft. Parents and caregivers must remain with their preschooler during the program. Sign up is not required. The program begins at 10 a.m.
5. On this day in 1824 in Vienna, the world premiere of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, with the famous final movement, the "Ode of Joy," is performed under conductor Michael Umlauf with the composer at his side.
