5 Things: Puppeteer Nicola McEldowney at the Library; Happy Shavuot
Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, May 15.

1. Bring the kids to see popular puppeteer Nicola McEldowney's return to the Belmont Public Library for a celebration of Children’s Book Week with a puppet presentation of the popular Leo Lionni stories Fish is Fish, Tico and the Golden Wings and Frederick. The show takes place at 3:15 p.m. in the library's Assembly Room. Columbia grad McEldowney is a writer, actress and puppeteer who performs regularly in the Boston area. The program is funded by the Jane Gray Dustan Trust.
2. Today is the first day of Shavuot, the Jewish celebration that commemorates the day God gave the Torah to the people of Israel. To celebrate, most Jews eat dairy foods which translates to going crazy on cheesecake.
3. The Belmont Book Discussion Group will discuss "The Tiger's Wife," by Tea Obreht from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Flett Room of the Belmont Public Library. Everyone is welcome to attend. Copies of the book can be requested through the library catalog or call the library Reference staff for assistance at 617-993-2870.

4. It's a triple header this afternoon as three Belmont High School teams host opponents: Girls' Tennis takes on Reading High at 3:30 p.m. while Softball and Baseball will meet Woburn High School at 3:45 p.m.
5. Free one-hour bocce lessons are offered on Wednesday mornings at the Beech Street Center at 9-10, 10-11, or 11-12. Learn the game of champions!
