5 Things: What's a Good Education App? Softball's 'Go Red' Game
Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, May 1.

1. There are so many children's apps that are marketed as educational, so how can families know which ones are worth investing in? Join Dr. Michael Connell as he explores what makes an 'educational app' educational. Connell, CEO and co-founder of Native Brain, will guide participants through what to look for when purchasing an app for children and how to make sure that you have found a quality program. The free talk takes place between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library.
2. The Belmont Varsity Softball team will be playing its "Go Red" game today against Wilmington High School to increase awareness to heart disease and stroke in women and to add to its "Hits for Heart" Campaign for the American Heart Association. The game takes place at 3:45 p.m. at the softball field across from the Belmont Public Library.
Other varsity games today include Girls' Lacrosse against Watertown at 4:30 at Harris Field, Boys' Tennis vs. Wilmington at 3:30 p.m. and Baseball against Wilmington at 3:45 p.m.

3. The Benton Library Bood Group will tackle all of Jaqueline Winspear’s mysteries. Newcomers are welcome even if they have not read one of the books. The book group, at Belmont's independent library, meets on the first Wednesday of every month.
4. Duplicate Bridge Club meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Beech Street Center at 266 Beech St. Every Wednesday the club holds American Contact Bridge League-sanctioned games. All are welcome to play. Cost is $5.
