Academic, Athletic and Civic Honors to Belmont High Seniors

It was another extraordinary class of graduates from Belmont High School as the Class of 2013 sat on stage of the school's auditorium – a reversal of tradition of when the students would sit as the audience – for the annual Senior Awards presentation on Friday, May 31. 

Belmont High Principal Dan Richards said he made the change in the seating arrangement to "put the spotlight on the students" who were receiving recognition for outstanding achievement in academics, athletics and civic involvement in their senior and through their time in the High School.

Known for its academic rigor, one in ten of Belmont's graduating seniors scored a perfect 800 in one or more of the SAT exams, four students were chosen as National Merit Scholar semifinalists, two received Merit scholarships and Evan Green was named a National Merit Scholar.

Students were also recognized for artistic achievement, extra curricular activities and being good all-around citizens.

Not only were individuals recognized for their achievements; the Chamber Singers and Jazz Choir were recognized for winning Gold Medals at the 2013 Roxbury Choral Invitational in New Jersey; the Girls' Soccer team for winning the Div. 2 North Sectionals and Girls' Swimming for being League co-champions.

And while not on the schedule, Athletic Director Jim Davis surprised Club Rugby captain Jonathan Comeau with a banner that will be placed in the Wenner Field House honoring the team for recently winning the state title.

The day ended with the senior class receiving a truly lasting memory of their class: the Yearbook.
