After Heating Oil Floods Basement, MA Restaurant To Close For Good

BELMONT, MA — A popular Belmont eatery known for its Armenian breakfast and lunch will close for good after an oil delivery driver mistakenly dumped 75 gallons of heating oil in the restaurant’s basement, according to multiple reports.

Aram’s Café, at 85 Trapelo Road, made the announcement in a now-deleted Facebook post, WCVB in Boston reported.

“This was not how we expected our story to end. But nevertheless, we are so grateful for every single day of the last 35 years for the opportunity to serve you and this wonderful community,” the post read, according to WCVB. “May you always remember Aram’s with happy memories and full stomachs."

Aram’s first closed in January after a Cubby Oil & Energy driver mistakenly delivered dozens of gallons of heating oil to the wrong address, the Belmont Citizen-Herald reported.

Aram’s owner Aram Postaljian told the newspaper in January that the business converted from oil heat years ago; however, the pipe leading into the basement from outside had not been removed or covered.

The driver was supposed to deliver the oil to 81 Trapelo Road, but his GPS took him to the wrong location, Cubby Oil owner Charlie Uglietto told the Citizen-Herald.

Postaljian, 72, put Aram’s Café on the market last fall. He wanted to sell the business and retire, he told the Citizen-Herald.

“My business is completely gone,” Postaljian said in January. “I don’t know if I will ever be able to reopen. I didn’t expect to go out like this.”
