Belmont Baseball Rout Red Raiders Early, 12-1

Double digits after two propels Marauders over the .500 mark.

Three runs in the first and eight in the second allowed Belmont High School Baseball's nine to an easy 12-1 victory over visiting Melrose High Red Raiders on Friday, May 3, at Brandon Grant Field in Belmont.

The win brings Head Coach Jim Brown's team over the .500 mark at 6-5 while Melrose fell just below the tournament line at 5-6.

The afternoon started on a perfect note as the Marauders first three batters singled and scored on Marauders' clean-up hitter and pitcher Mike Richardson's double which cleared the bases.

Belmont scored their eight in the second all with one out on three doubles, two singles, two walks and a hit by pitch. 

Freshman standout Chris Bartells (double and single), Brian Coutts (pair of singles), Branden Shea (two singles) and Zach Brandt (two doubles) each had multiple hits in the fourth home win this season.

Richardson pitched five complete innings with four strikeouts while giving up four hits and no runs.
